3 Reasons to blog your music!

how-blogging-worksSo in this day and age everyone has a blog (Yes, even your grandmother!). It could be in the form of a Facebook profile or Page, Twitter or here on WordPress. Everyone is creating content, and everyone is placing it online. I want to go over the importance of creating and managing a blog to share and promote your music! Let’s get to it!

I’m sure you all know what a blog is, but if not here’s a very…very short description. A blog is an online journal composed of articles called “Posts”. These posts include text and media like photos, video’s, and music tracks from around the web.

There are TONS of ways to create a blog, but I will not be going over how to create one. I want to focus on some of the main reasons I blog and why they can help you develop a bigger following as well.

Develops a larger fan base…

When you create content on a regular basis, you give your fans or followers more chances to learn about you. When you make a post about your latest tour, you show them what they missed if they didn’t make it to your show. When you post a video performance of your new single, it gives them something that they won’t find anywhere else. Once they see they you post exclusive content to your blog, they’re going to want to visit more often!

Your followers can keep up to date on Twitter, they can see your coolest moments via Instagram. They can go behind the scenes by reading your blog! Your Blog (and social media in general) gives them insight into your work on the stage and off. By reading your blog, you want your fans to develop a closer relationship with you and your work. This is great in marketing and promotion, but it’s cool to know that you have people that enjoy what you are creating.

*Quick tip: If you post content primarily on Social media, make sure to ALWAYS link back to your blog site. Think of your Social media posts as the appetizer and your blog post as the main course!

Expands your reach..

Creating content on a regular basis increases opportunities for your fans to discover your work. This also generates opportunities for your content to come up in search engines. As your followers come back to your blog, the chances of them using a search engine to find your blog increases.

This is good because search engines are always looking for new content to categorize. Search engines discover which websites are growing and how active they are. The more active your blog is, the higher your search ranking. Everything that you post can be another opportunity for a fan to discover your content via search engines.

Broadcast your own news…

If you take away anything from what I posted today I hope that it is this. With a blog you can announce your own news, your own way. You can tell your own personal story as you play shows, or write your songs. At the very least, a blog lets you share concert dates, a few photos from the road, ect. Share all your music related events when creating content for your blog.

But you want more than a list of tour dates, you want to share the cool moments that make creating music so awesome. This is your time to let your music life shine. The more open you are, the more your fans are going to want to get to know you.

That’s it! Those are my top three reasons I blog, and why you should to. It has helped me with sharing my music and has given me a platform to share my work with you! I hope these tips help you, and help encourage you to start writing about your own musical path.
